Richie Towell joined Albion from League of Ireland side Dundalk in January 2016, on a two-and-half-year deal until 2018.
In three years at Dundalk, Towell helped them win back-to-back League of Ireland titles and won a League of Ireland Cup medal in 2014 – completing an Irish league-and-cup double.
He also won a host of individual awards, to add to his 2013 Irish PFA Young Player of the Year Award, and his 29 goals in 44 games which helped Dundalk retain the league title.
Towell had an excellent goalscoring record of 49 goals in 113 games in his time with Dundalk, and in his younger years was with Celtic – where he began his career – and Hibernian in the Scottish Premier League.
The creative midfielder made his Albion debut in an FA Cup defeat to Hull City, before playing 40 minutes off the bench in the club’s Play-Off Semi-Final first leg against Sheffield Wednesday in 2016.
Towell scored his first goal for the first team in an FA Cup fourth-round tie against Lincoln City, but the Seagulls went on to lose the game 3-1 at Sincil Bank.
He’s also represented Ireland at under-17, under-19 and under-21 level, and has made his ambitions clear to break into the full Irish squad.
